Your support will enable us to achieve our mission to serve homeless and needy women and children.
When provisions are exhausted before the month ends, families often need assistance to purchase perishable items such as milk, eggs, meat and other “right now” food products.
The intent of this program is to help families remain in their own homes and avoid eviction due to unpaid rent or utilities. This program assists by paying a portion of what is owed to the landlord or utility company.
The ministry provides school uniforms, and maintains an array of baby and toddler clothing and other items.
In 2016, Monogram Foods (Karl Schledwitz) and Don Hudson Consulting donated a 15-passenger van. The van is used to pick up in-kind donations and to transport emergency food to women with children who live in areas designated as “food deserts.” Food donations are received from area churches. The Ministry extends it deepest appreciation for this vehicle which enables us to better achieve our mission to provide food and other necessities to needy families.
When you need to talk to someone, our volunteers are available to provide prayer, spiritual instruction, guidance and mentoring.
(THIS PROGRAM IS SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE)
Our Summer Enrichment Camp offers a program of creative learning and fun in the form of field trips and outings, arts and crafts classes, computer learning, reading, educational debates and discussions and other activities designed to challenge and stretch young minds.
Emergency food is essential for families when provisions are exhausted before the month has come to an end. Due to the rising cost of food (also a byproduct of Covid 19), mothers are having a difficult time providing enough food for their children. Families often need supplemental assistance to purchase perishable items such as bread, milk, eggs, cheese, meat and other “right now” food products. The problem has worsened because food costs have continued to rise. We expect food insecurity to become an even more serious problem over the summer months when children are out of school and mothers must begin to provide the breakfast and lunch meals that were offered when their children were in school. In addition, some families need toiletry items, hygiene products, diapers and especially baby formula. The Ministry provides food vouchers from $50 to $150 per week depending on family size. Mothers are asked to return grocery store receipts to confirm their purchase of food. If you would like to assist with this program, simply purchase gift cards from any local grocery store and donate them to the Ministry.
Housing continues to be one of the most critical needs for women and children in Memphis and Shelby County. In order to maintain housing, struggling women must keep pace with the rising cost of rent and utility services. Since the onset of Covid-19, landlords have not only increased the cost of rent, but they have increased the number of eviction filings against those who cannot afford to pay the increased rent. Women and children have felt the greatest impact of these increases. At the start of the pandemic when many women lost their jobs and were out of work for several months, they got behind with rent payments which resulted in threats of eviction. The same has been true regarding utility services. MLGW had offered a brief moratorium on the payment of utility services but has since demanded payment for past due services or customers have faced shut offs. Again, HER Faith Ministries has focused its efforts on preventing evictions and interruptions in utility services by offering “pay-down” grants to women with children. With the assistance of Truist Bank, the Ministry has been able to prevent the eviction of 40 families by providing grants from $500 to $1,000 to help with past due payments. If you would like to help mothers to avoid eviction by supporting the program to provide pay-down grants, please make your tax deductible gift of any size to HER Faith Ministries through our secure website at: herfaithministries.org.
The cost of clothing for infants up to toddlers is a challenge for new mothers. This is the age when children are growing quickly. The Ministry will still accept gently worn and new clothing items for infant to toddler (up to 4 years old) including diapers for newborn to toddler aged children. If you would like to assist with this program, simply donate gently worn or new infant to toddler items to the ministry.
